Characters

Name: Pokémon Trainer
Video Game Debut: Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Green [GBA]
About: Wow: the first word to come to mind for many Smash Bros enthusiasts around the world after reading that the Pokémon Trainer will be a playable character in the latest game of the series. The trainer himself, who seems to be the primary male character in Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Green, plays an interesting role in the game. While he does not battle directly, he commands a party of Pokémon to fight for him. The party, consisting of a Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard, make for a balanced mix of the three primary elements, although only one can do battle on the field at a time. All the Pokémon summoned by the Trainer also share but one damage meter, and apparently possess individual stamina, however, players may not always realize such a detail when facing a very intimidating, angry Charizard.

Special Moves
Down Special: Pokémon Change
Using this skill, the Pokémon can call back one of his Pokémon from the field and summon another.

Each share the same damage meter, although the Pokémon also possess an additional stat which could be considered stamina. As a result, you'll want to use each Pokémon eavenly in order to demonstrate optimal results.

There's also an order for when you switch out the Pokémon, and is it as follows: Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard, back to Squirtle, and so on.

Squirtle Up Special: Waterfall
Squirtle rides up a waterfall which appears.

Squirtle Side Special: Withdraw
Squirtle withdraws into its shell and slides in the direction of choice, damaging opponents upon contact.

Ivysaur Standard Special: Bullet Seed
With this attack, Ivysaur rapidly fires a barrage of seeds straight into the air.

Ivysaur Up Special: Vine Whip
Ivysaur sends its vines into the air, catching onto a ledge before it's too late.

Charizard Standard Special: Flamethrower
The attack name is fairly self-explanatory. If you aren't familiar with such a word, then the screenshot below offers an accurate depiction.

Charizard Side Special: Rock Smash
Charizard grabs a large boulder and smashes it with his head, the debris damaging any opponents found in the direction of the attack. Kids, don't try this at home.

Final Smash: Triple Finish
When one of the three acquire the Smash Ball, each of the Pokémon are sent out at once.

The three then attack using HydroPump, SolarBeam, and FireBlast. It's a lot of power. And as a bonus, we're presented with a nice dialoque screen at the bottom, much like previous Pokémon games. Now THAT is attention to detail.
